China: Wen Heads Defense Commission October 20, 2010 Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao became the director of the National Defense Commission on July 1, while Chinese President and Central Military Commission Chairman Hu Jintao became deputy director, the Hong Kong Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy announced Oct. 20. The appointment was not made public when it occurred because of the sensitivity of the issue.
