Pakistan: Iran Does Not Need Nuclear WeaponsOctober 19, 2010 Iran does not have a justification to “go nuclear” because there is no immediate threat to Tehran, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said, adding that he wanted to avoid another major regional crisis, AFP reported Oct. 19. Pakistan does accept Iran’s right to civilian use of nuclear technology but it must accept international obligations as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, he stated, adding that the case is different for Islamabad because India is a threat to Pakistan. Iran must seize the opportunity to mend U.S.-Iranian ties, Qureshi said, saying he shared his views with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki. |
