China: Defense Development Is No ThreatOctober 12, 2010 Non-traditional security issues pose grave challenges to regional security, economic growth and people’s livelihood, but China’s defense development is not intended to challenge or threaten anyone, Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie said Oct. 12, Xinhua reported. Asia-Pacific security is stable but the region is still confronted with many transnational and unpredictable challenges that require a joint response, including tsunami, earthquake, typhoon and flood, Liang stated. China supports the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ Defense Ministers Meeting-Plus 8 as it focuses on non-traditional security cooperation and gives priority to tackling non-traditional security challenges, he said. |
